Melrose
Melrose- Was an Italian enclave in the south Bronx centered around Our Lady of Pity Italian National Parish. he parish of Madonna del Suffragio (Our Lady of Pity) was founded in 1908 by Italian immigrants from Ponza, an island off the coast of Italy halfway between Rome and Naples. Melrose is rectangular-shaped, being bordered by Jackson Avenue on the east, 149th Street on the south, Park Avenue on the west, and 162nd Street to the north. Melrose Avenue and Third Avenue are the primary thoroughfares through Melrose.
