Parkchester

Parkchester is bordered by Van Nest, Unionpart, Westchester Square, Morris Park, and Park Versailles.  Parkchester was a very lively Italian enclave in the 1940’s, living alongside Irish, Protestants, and Jews. Up until the late 1960’s, the time when the process of integration was starting to kick off in the United States, Parkchester was a neighborhood that excluded African Americans and Latinos as residents.  Recently, Parkchester experienced a great demographic, juxtaposed with the pre-Civil Rights Act laws. The churches in Parkchester include Santa Maria Church and St. Anthony. Some notable Italian establishments include Venice Pizzeria and Jerry’s Pizzeria.
