Wingate/Pig Town

Famous for the pigs that roamed the streets eating refuse, Pigtown was an Italian enclave surrounding the Italian National Parish of St. Blaise. Wingate is really considered part of Crown Heights. The neighborhood was referenced in Spike Lee’s “Do the Right Thing” starring Spike Lee and Danny Aiello. This area is surrounded by East Flatbush, Flatbush, Fort Greene, and Ocean Hill. Wingate has not been an Italian neighborhood for decades.
