South Philadelphia

South Philadelphia also nicknamed ‘South Philly’ is primarily known for its huge Italian American population, but also includes large Irish American and African American populations. It is the section of Philadelphia bounded by South Street to the north, the Delaware River to the east and south and the Schuylkill River to the West. The St, Nicholas of Tolentine Church is one of the two ethnically Italian Parishes in the South Vicariate with the other being St. Donatos of West Philadelphia. South Philadelphia also hosts the annual South 9th Street Italian Market Festival.
