Gowanus

Gowanus is a strange combination of city residential, commercial, and industrial. It doesn’t quite feel like a community yet it is its own distinguishable community. Many years ago, this was a tightly-knit Italian neighborhood and the fewer residential multi-family homes in this neighborhood all knew one another. Gowanus borders South Park Slope, Park Slope, Carroll Gardens, Red Hook and Boerum Hill. The Italian national parish is Our Lady of Peace and is one of the most beautiful Italian national parishes with a Latin mass still held on Sunday mornings. The neighborhood still has social clubs, Italian businesses, and Italian residents although they are far less noticeable as many have left.
