Follansbee

Like many other areas in the state, Italians were drawn to Follansbee primarily for work at a number of mining companies, along with across the Ohio River in nearby Steubenville. The town today is still filled to the brim with Italian businesses, such as DiCarlo Bro’s Pizza, Vito’s, De Stefano’s Bar, Iafrate’s Barber Shop, an Italian Christian Church, and many more. Follansbee still has an Italian club, the S.M.S. Giuseppe Garibaldi Lodge which has been in operation since 1926. Some notable locals of Follansbee are Dave Casinelli, the NCAA rushing yards leader in 1963 as well as Mike Ciccoletta, a former NFL player who played in the 1960’s.
