About Us

The Italian Enclaves Historical Society is dedicated to documenting, preserving, and sharing the history of Italian communities throughout the United States and Canada. Founded by Raymond Guarini, the Society explores the neighborhoods where Italian immigrants and their descendants built new lives, established enduring institutions, and helped shape the cultural identity of North America.

Through archival research, field visits, historical publications, photographs, and community contributions, we bring these stories into focus. Our work documents the churches, businesses, mutual aid societies, religious feasts, and everyday traditions that connected generations. From well-known Little Italies to smaller, often overlooked settlements, we seek to preserve a fuller understanding of the Italian immigrant experience and its lasting influence.

We believe this history belongs to the people and communities who lived it. By making our research accessible and encouraging others to share their knowledge, memories, and family histories, we connect the past with the present and help future generations understand where they come from. Whether a neighborhood remains a thriving Italian enclave or survives primarily in photographs and recollections, its story deserves to be remembered.

Our board members bring perspectives rooted in Italian enclaves across the country, strengthening the Society through their local knowledge, personal histories, and shared commitment to preserving our heritage. While the board's membership has evolved over the years, each member's contributions have enriched our work and helped shape our direction. We remain grateful to all who have served, whose research, relationships, and dedication form an enduring part of the Society's foundation.
